What is the difference between Bradford Kickstart and Kickstart Community?
Bradford Kickstart is a scheme that aims to help local people set-up at least 1000 small business during the next ten years - encourage growth, prosperity and employment in the Bradford District. The scheme offers a wide range of support to people who are thinking of working for themselves and to young businesses. This includes help with finances, finding a premises, book-keeping, marketing, plus support from a personal business counsellor.
Kickstart Community is a website provided by Bradford Kickstart to encourage communication between new and existing businesses in Bradford District. Kickstart Community members have access to lots of online benefits including a free email service, live chat with other members, discussion forums, and a library of business documents and templates in the Kickstart Knowledgebase. You can register on Kickstart Community and enjoy all of these online benefits without being a member of Bradford Kickstart.
What support is available?
Can I join Bradford Kickstart if I already run a business?
Yes! We're delighted if new and established businesses join Bradford Kickstart and Kickstart Community. Bradford Kickstart offers services to start-up companies and growing businesses in the Bradford District. The Kickstart Community caters for all businesses and we encourage established businesses to get involved in the site to share their experiences as well as learn from others.
Can I join Bradford Kickstart by registering on Kickstart Community?
Do I have to become a member to enjoy the benefits of Bradford Kickstart?
Yes. To enjoy the full benefits of Bradford Kickstart you need to call 0800 953 9503 to speak to a Bradford Kickstart advisor. However you don't need to be a member of Bradford Kickstart to register with Kickstart Community and enjoy all the online benefits of the scheme.
What information will I have to give when I register?
To register with Kickstart Community we'll need your name, address, and a telephone number and/or email address. To register with Bradford Kickstart you'll need to speak to an advisor on 0800 953 9503 so that we can collect more details. This information will enable us to work out how we can help you.
What happens if I don't have an email address?
If you don't have an email address when you register with Kickstart Community you'll need to provide a mobile telephone number so that we can send your log-in details by text message. Please remember, if you register on a bank holiday, at a weekend or in the evening you will not receive your text-message confirmation until the next working day.
As soon as you've registered with Kickstart Community you will be given an email address that looks like this: username@bradfordkickstart.com. You'll then be able to use this account to send and receive emails.
Will you use my information to try to sell me anything?
No. None of the information you give us will be used to sell you anything. We only need your details to contact you about the scheme. Read more about our privacy policy.
I don't live in Bradford. Can I still be a member?
Only people who live in Bradford District, or wish to set up a business in Bradford District, can join the Bradford Kickstart scheme.
Will you pass on my details to anybody else?
No. Your details will only be used by Bradford Kickstart or the partners who offer the services included in the scheme. Read more about our partners and our privacy policy.
What if I change my mind?
You can change your mind at any time and cancel your membership with Bradford Kickstart and/or Kickstart Community.
Can I register if I don't have my own computer?
Yes. You can be a member of Bradford Kickstart and Kickstart Community without owning your own computer. If you want to join Kickstart Community you'll need access to the internet, but remember to protect your log-in details and make sure the computer is secure - particularly if it is used by other people.
Groups & forums
Do I have to join a group?
No. You don't have to join any groups - but remember this is a great way to start chatting to other members and getting advice from other people.
Can I join more than one group?
Yes, you can join as many groups as you wish.
Will the other members of the group be able to see my personal details?
Other members will only be able to see your name, as all your other details are hidden to protect your privacy.
What is the difference between a group and a forum?
A 'group' is a group of Kickstart Community members. All Kickstart Community members can choose which groups to join and might make their decision based on the ideas or issues discussed in the group, or the profiles of the other members. Members of a group can send messages to each other that cannot be read by other members.
'Forums' are discussions about a topic or issue that can take place either privately within a group, or publicly from the Kickstart Community home page.
Does anyone monitor what is being said in the forums?
Yes. Bradford Kickstart monitors all the forums on Kickstart Community to learn more about the issues affecting members and to make sure that everything posted adheres to our terms & conditions.
I don't like what is being said in my group or forum, what can I do?
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but if you think a member is posting information that is offensive or does not meet the Kickstart Community terms & conditions then please report this by using the complaint form on the contact page.
What are the rules for joining a group or forum?
Any comments posted in a group or a forum must follow the Kickstart Community terms & conditions.
Emails & messaging
Can anybody else read my emails?
Only if they have access to your log-in details - so make sure you don't give them to anyone. And, if using a shared computer make sure you log off the site using the logout button. See our terms & conditions for more information.
What is the difference between emailing and messaging?
Your email account allows you to send email messages to anybody in the world who has an email address. Messaging is a simple way of communicating with other members of Kickstart Community by posting messages, publicly or privately, directly onto the site.
Can I take my email address with me if I no longer want to be a member of Kickstart Community?
No. Your email account will be closed as soon as you cancel your membership with Kickstart Community.
Are there any restrictions on the type or size of file that I can send or receive using my Bradford Kickstart email address?
Yes. You can only send and receive files up to 8Mb. Also, any file that you send must not contain offensive or illegal material. Read more in our terms & conditions.

Business Counsellors
Can I choose my own business counsellor?
No. Every business counsellor has access to the huge network of organisations and services available so, when you join Bradford Kickstart, we will allocate you a business counsellor who we think will best suit your needs based on the information you have given us.
How can I become a business counsellor?
Interested in becoming a business counsellor? Call 0800 953 9503 to speak to one of our advisors.
Can I change my business counsellor?
Yes. If we haven't matched you with somebody who suits your business needs just call us on 0800 953 9503 and we will try to find you another business counsellor as soon as possible.

Will Bradford Kickstart continue to help me once I have set up my business?
Yes. We will continue to help you for as long as you need us. And, as your business grows, we will also be able to introduce you to other valuable local contacts including Business Link and Bradford Chamber.
Will I be charged if I do not set up a business?
No. You won't be charged anything even if you don't set up a business.
Using the Bradford Kickstart website
What is a blog?
A 'blog' is like a diary. If you're a member of Kickstart Community you can create your own blog entry and then publish on the site - either publicly or just for your group. Read our members' blogs here.
Can I remove a blog after I have posted it?
Yes. You can remove or change any blog you've posted - just follow the instructions on your personal home page.
I am not happy about someone else's blog, what can I do?
Report it to us by completing the form on the contact us page.
How can I feature in a video-clip or case-study?
Contact us to register your interest in being featured in one of our video-clips or case-study. We cannot guarantee that we'll use your story but we're always looking for new stars!
Can my computer play video-clips?
You will need Flash Player on your computer to play the video-clips. If you don't have it already you will automatically be prompted to download it when you try to play a video-clip - accept this when prompted.
What is the Bradford Kickstart Knowledgebase?
This is a library of documents and templates - all designed to help you set-up and run a business. Only members of Kickstart Community have access to the full library and can download this information.
